This fall, three students at Leeds High School have been engaged in a Cooperative Work Experience setting. Seniors Jayden Lundstrom and Chase Rolle have been working at Summers Manufacturing in Devils Lake. Senior Kayden Nelsen has been working for an area farmer, and also operates a lawn care business with his Dad. These three students work in the afternoons, after attending their core classes at Leeds School.
Jayden and Chace get a chance to demonstrate the welding techniques they learned at Leeds High School and also learn new welding skills and hone their craft in a real-world setting at Summers. They work from approximately 1-4:30 pm each day, but also appreciate that Summers always them some flexible time if needed to complete other homework or be involved in sports or other activities.
Jayden would like to finish out the summer working at Sommers and possibly attend Lynne Welding School after graduation to further her career aspirations.
Chace likes the fact that he is only in regular school classes for about 3 hours and then gets to do hands-on work. He also feels this experience is prepping him for whatever is in the future as far as job opportunities.
Kaden operated a combine and a grain cart during the harvest season. This was the third year of harvest working for this farmer. Kaden's grandpa used to farm, so that is what drew him to farm work, as he wanted to keep up the tradition. Kaden's favorite things about this work has been using his ability to problem-solve and follow the steps to operate equipment properly and safely. The cooperative work experience of lawn care has given him a glimpse of what real life work is like and the opportunity to interact with people in providing them a service.
Congratulations to all three students on their hard work and representing Leeds High School in such a positive manner!
